Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann has welcomed the timeline for the upgrade to the next section of Nelson Bay Road from Cromarty Lane to Port Stephens Drive, Anna Bay. Work is underway, with the review of environmental factors being finalised, property acquisitions proceeding and planning being done for utility adjustments. Mr Baumann said after years of neglect by the previous Labor Government, the new Government allocated $3 million in 2011/12 for planning and preconstruction activities, including property acquisition. "The NSW Government has committed $40 million over the next four years from the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund to upgrade this section of Nelson Bay Road," he said. Roads and Maritime Services expect to complete preconstruction activities and call tenders in the second half of 2012, with road construction to commence in early 2013. It is expected to be opened to traffic in 2014.
