Car park upgrade at Shoal Bay boat ramp

Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann has announced a $182,500 State Government grant to Port Stephens Council for the Shoal Bay boat ramp car park upgrade.

The upgrade will include a complete reconstruction of the car/trailer park, including sealing and realignment with the reconstructed boat ramp.

"The much-anticipated replacement boat ramp at Shoal Bay is now open which is just in time for the busy Summer boating season," said Mr Baumann.

"This new funding for the car park upgrade will be a boon to boaters with 22 dedicated car/trailer spaces, improved turning areas at the boat ramp ensuring boaters can access the beach side boat ramp quickly and safely and also reduce conflict with the adjacent access road."

Mr Baumann said the council would look at starting the work next year, working around the peak holiday usage times of the January school holidays and Easter holidays.

The grant from Roads and Maritime Services funding comes under the Better Boating Program. It is part of more than $4.5 million in grants to provide new and improved boating facilities across NSW.
“By supporting new and improved boating facilities, Roads and Maritime Services is putting customers first in our boating communities statewide,” Mr Baumann said.

“It is estimated that more than 1.5 million people go boating in NSW each year and making access to our waterways safer and more convenient is good news for the community, he said.

“This grant funding recognises the important role boating has to play in our communities and the economy.”
