Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann has welcomed the announcement of over $160,000 in funding for local transport infrastructure as part of a regional grants program. The Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme is administered by Transport for NSW and provides support to improve transport infrastructure for customers outside major cities. Mr Baumann, who is also Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Planning, said the local projects receiving funding were: • $7,500 to fund bus shelter modifications for disability access as proposed by the Lions Club of Soldiers Point. This grant will benefit Anna Bay, One Mile, Salt Ash, Soldiers Point, Shoal Bay, Bobs Farm, Corlette and Salamander Bay; and • $160,000 for more accessible public transport infrastructure at Raymond Terrace, Medowie, Corlette, and Nelson Bay as proposed by Port Stephens Council. The work includes installing concrete slabs, ramps, indented bus bays, bus shelters, signage and tactile indicators. “This is good news for local public transport passengers because these improvements will provide benefits for years to come,” Mr Baumann said. “The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to improving public transport infrastructure in the regions. “These projects provide practical public transport improvements that local communities use every day. “Regional NSW will continue to benefit from the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government as we renovate the state’s infrastructure after 16 years of Labor neglect."
